What Goes Around Comes Around

Anyone noticed how the title can be quite of an innuendo? I love it.

Last Sunday, I was on duty in my event organizer's event, Block Battles IV. I've mentioned before how it's filled with live performances, instead of a club party. This month we had 30 performers, imagine the craziness. I was in charge fully with the artists and the rundown, happy but super exhausted. But this post isn't about that.

Block Battles talents + crowds = Awesome!

In one of the sets, there's a rap group consisted of some of the craziest rappers I like surprising everyone by openly trash talking / dissing another pretty well known rapper in the country. They even went as far as challenging this guy, who's not there but some of his entourage was there. A couple of funny punchlines paired with curses were thrown, a lot of people were shocked and giggled.

Trash talking in Indonesian Hip-Hop scene is nothing new, I've been victimized by several. But last night was a big hip-hop event with many radio announcers, fellow rappers, music writers and bloggers in the crowd too. There's no way this incident wouldn't reach the well-known-rapper 's ears.

Scandalous.

I tried not to get involved but I couldn't help feeling curious. I wonder what made someone can be severely ridiculed with cameras rolling around.

Apparently the rap group was performing in a certain local TV station live the other day and instead of minding his own business, the well-known-rapper was tweeting about how bad it is. How they're such a shame to the whole hip-hop industry and such. So the group felt disrespected, embarrassed. Many people obviously read the tweet, hence they retaliated. They said they'd continue too, in every future performance. And man, these guys perform a lot. I hope it's not a start of a long term beef.

All I can say about this is...be careful when you tweet. Regular person can get in trouble for tweeting, imagine some sort of a public figure. The more 'famous' you are, shouldn't you be more aware? Such thing better said behind closed doors. Or at least, off line.

Ironically funny fact in the music industry and life in general :

"When people do bad or fail something, others diss them. But when they do good / succeed, the dissing still won't go away."

That was kind of sad. I think I should stop bashing Justin Bieber. You know, in case I get famous. Haha! ;)

And I your quote at the end. So true.

Hiphop dissing should just not be started. The industry can't really blossom with haters like that! I mean, you gotta realize that you're not gonna like everything that everyone else does, and it's no reason for anyone to get judgey about it.

One of the worst examples of this is the Michael C Hall incident last year, where he was accepting some award and went on stage wearing a beanie and some newspaper guy was like "What is he playing Bob Marley in a future movie? He looks ridiculous. Not sure what's with that get up"

And quickly he got hundreds of responses, "He's going through treatment for a cancer."

You're right, you do have to be careful what you tweet.

It's a lot more instant than a blog. It's spur of the moment. You can put something out there in a heated moment and then regret it before people start responding and telling you how wrong it was.

Glad you had a fun time at the event. I know what you mean about the trash talking either from a live event or tweeting. Sometimes people should just stop before doing it - but it is such interesting drama sometimes for us not involved! :)

ooooooooooooh, i bet this is going to get really ugly really fast, and that it won't go away any time soon! very glad i am not involved in this beef!

Music would be nothing without the haters, right?!! The quote's so true though!

Your last quote says it all.

Bah, they're just attention bitches! 'Cause rapping about how tough their lives "in da hood" are is no longer new or interesting for that matter. But bringing the scandal by dissing other... now that's always a way to get some press! Lame, lame, lame.....

  1. I'm with ScoMan...that potshot at Michael C Hall last year was ridiculous. People really need to be more aware of what they're saying - whether verbally or in an Online atmosphere - you honestly never know when something is going to come back to haunt you! :/

  1. Very true. I's sorry you been victimized by it to. I guess when you enter the stage you do to some extend open yourself to these kind of attacks, but people who are in the same position should be more understanding and respectful. I hope rappers in Indonesia aren't like the ones in the states so that this turns violent..

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!!! I'm here to return the favor.

You are right about being careful on Twitter. I need to remind myself of that more often!

glad it didn't go outta hand then and there if you know what I mean! i'm sorry that you have to deal with it as well, it's just what happens in the limelight - you have to take the stage with a grain of salt.

just started blogging, please drop by and tell me what you think!

I agree, I hate online bashing, it just leads to trouble!

Ah dang!! As bad as the dissing is, I think I may have enjoyed being there just a bit. I should probably just stop dissing in general...

I read it and instantly felt bad about the Jonas Brother bashing I do.I never put it on a public place like Twitter but I suppose those things have a way of coming back to you. I'm sorry about the tweet dissing...but there is always a hater with an opinion they feel they "need" to share.

I got the inuendo and laughed to myself--seeing as I'm not really suppose to be reading blogs at the moment....I know, Bad girl. Tisk, tisk.

    Muah!

yea trash talking sucks cause it doesnt really help the other person nor does it help the person doing the bashing. people wont always like the same things and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  1. Glad you had fun...it is sad how people think they need to diss to be hot. I miss the days when rappers didn't need to bash on others to make it.

  1. kayaknya seru bangeeet *lagi males ngomong basa inggris, otak out of order, lol* jadi pengen nonton, well... bashing dkk-nya bikin tambah seru kayaknya, tontonan gratis *indonesiabanget* lololol...

  1. Ouch, tweeting your hate? That's not cool. You're totally right, you always need to be careful. you never know who is reading.

Celebs or anyone with a dose of fame (be it local or international) should be very careful when they tweet. Be tactful if you're a public figure. Most of them tweet their mind without thinking about the consequences.

I don't blame the rappers to retaliate. They didn't start it after all.

  1. Sheri said...:

P.S. - I tagged you in my photo tag post, I hope you do it! :)

  1. Misery said...:

ppl are so careless about things that they Tweet, but it's like this with Internet in general - it unleaches our inner mean self I guess :) And of course, there's nothing that can be done about it (I'm pesimistic like that, haha). I mean - everyone is into this - even Courtney Love trashes Lilly Allen via Tweeter :)

That last quote completely sums it up. Perfect.

Ah, tweets... some can be annoying... People annoyed me with their mocking, but I know I shouldn't be upset. I know those who say don't be upset, when someone disses you on- or offline, but it's a different thing, when it hits you. Always easy to give advice to others, eh? :)

  1. Fizzgig said...:

i think it all comes about from insecurity. feeling not good enough, so you try to break others down to your level.

    pathetic.

im a BIG believer in karma!

oh people get FIRED over tweets all the time! personally I don't think you should openly trash someone you know personally on twitter... unless it's Tila Tequila. Ha!

  1. Nikolett said...:

Oh wows, drama central. I wish ... oh no, I'm going to sound like the girl from 'Mean Girls', but I wish everyone could all just get along and rap and have awesome Indonesian hip-hop without starting beef with anyone else. Definitely got to be careful what you tweet, for sure. Hope you still had a good time whiel you were on a duty, though! :)

I still don't understand the point of tweeting. It's like Facebook status updates, right? You're right, though, it's good to be cautious of the words you put out in the world! You never know when it'll come back and bite you.
