Project Saigon

Oh wow, I haven't blogged in a month. Anyone is still here? Helloooo?

I have so much to write, I don't even know where to begin. In the past two months I have:

  • Visited new, exciting places

  • Met new people I wanna punch on the face

  • Made a new song about people I wanna punch on the face

  • Made a decision on changing my life and focusing on myself

Lalala. The last one is pretty serious to write right now (I am tipsy). The parts about people I wanna punch on the face would just make me angry so let's just talk about the first one, shall we?

Last January I visited Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon and Lombok. I have written about my excitement here. I figured I'd tell you about Saigon first because ZOMG it's officially one of my favorite places in South East Asia right now. Beside Bali, Singapore and Phuket, of course.

At first I didn't know what to expect since I had to go there for some kind of office retreat. The firm I work for globally (Baker&Mckenzie) held its annual joint office retreat (or is it every 2 years?) for its Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore offices there this year. We're supposed to attend all sorts of training while having fun at the same time. We ended up having more fun than training though. Haha. So yeah, Saigon, I love it. It's such a beautiful little vintage city and it's developing. A lot of gorgeous colonial buildings and clean air (compared to Jakarta). Here's a recap on why I love it so I don't bore you guys with long paragraphs:

  • Colonial buildings and laid back vintage vibe, like I wrote above

  • Rich culture

  • Cute, loud people. I think it's the language. Vietnamese babies? The cutest. Nothing like seeing toddlers with longggg eyelashes talking louder than you.

  • Cheap EVERYTHING. The prices for a lot of things there are half the prices in Jakarta, sometimes even more. You gotta love the city where every mini market sells a bottle of vodka for only US$ 7. WTF. It's US$ 60 in Jakarta, by the way, and it's in the cheapest dingiest place nobody wants to go to so what's the point.

  • Loud people on motorcycles / buses screaming at each other. Actually, Jakarta is like this too but Indonesian language isn't that funny.

  • Good weather, all warm and stuff.

  • Good food.

  • Extremely good Vietnamese coffee. Sadly I didn't bring enough home. A co worker bought a kilo and she doesn't want to share or even let me buy it from her. Bitch.

  • Fun party scene. Apparently Saigon people are big on partying and drinking or something. Was informed the club opens from Monday to Sunday. I can feel my liver wrinkles and cries itself to sleep as I type this.
