Last Thursday I had my graduation ceremonies in school. Two, to be exact. One is bigger, thrown by the university and all that. The second one is from the faculty itself.
I had a mixed feelings about them.
Part of it because I graduated one year later than my plan so I might not be as excited as I've hoped for. 70 or so younger kids (those who were born on 1988 and 1989) also graduated and they're all cheery and bubbly and you got me, along with 25 people from my class (yes the older people) scowled from time to time and complained about how hot it was.
But it doesn't mean I'm not happy though, because I am. FINALLY I'M OUT. Well, I was out already since I passed that fateful thesis presentation in front of my professors back in April but the ceremonies made it official right? I'M FINALLY OUT OF THE KINGDOM OF LAWBOTS. It felt SO GOOD. If you've read my blog for a while, you might know how that place has its own ways to sit on me, pin me down, and make me tear up. And not in a sexy way.
They say I'm gonna miss it. Uh, yeah, okay, maybe one day in a very distant future.
The university ceremony was pretty long, starting at 9 am. I woke up at 6 am because I hired a stylist to do my make up and hair. In Indonesia, girls wear traditional costumes / kebaya under their gowns instead of regular dresses and these usually require certain hairstyle that you can't do yourself. Unless you're really, really good at doing your hair. I got sweaty by the time I put on my gown and sit in the super-crowded main hall with the fellow graduates from all the faculties in my university. The ceremony was pretty moving though, in a way, although all we had to do was sit and mostly listened to sleep inducing speeches. We had freshmen in second floor singing for us and an orchestra. Pretty magical, you know?
The faculty ceremony was longer, but better, a bit more intimate with friends and professors swarming around congratulating us. When they called out my name, I kinda got the urge to cry and salto at the same time. Cheesy. We got more singing, more speeches, and a lot of pictures taken. What else? Oh, my mom couldn't stop taking pictures so I had to hide from her a bit. Then she ping me constantly during a speech from the dean because I fell asleep with my mouth half open and hands on my blackberry. Good times.
What did you remember about your last graduation ceremony?
Did you get bored at some point or am I just that bad of a person? No, don't answer it.

I don't have many pictures with my cap on because I couldn't really put it on right and I kinda destroyed it in the end. I spilled orange juice on it.
